Michael Milliken, MD FAAD, received an engineering degree from Virginia Tech, where he graduated
summa cum laude. He completed medical school at the University of Virginia
and completed his Master’s of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University
to fortify his skills in clinical research. During his nine years with
the University of Utah, he completed residencies in internal medicine
and dermatology—in addition to a clinical research fellowship in
psoriasis for which he was awarded a National Psoriasis Foundation Medical
Dermatology Fellowship grant. After training, he stayed on as faculty
with the University of Utah department of dermatology.
While with the University of Utah department of dermatology, Dr. Milliken
participated in over 35 industry sponsored and investigator-initiated
clinical trials across a wide variety of diseases. He played a prominent
role in helping to design and implement a multitude of investigator-initiated
studies, including evaluation of new technologies and new applications
of existing technologies. He started a clinical center of excellence in
hair and scalp disease and extensively studied both medical and surgical
approaches to hair loss and hair disease. He has a continued interest
in clinical research and enjoys teaching medical students and residents.
Despite growing up in the Washington, D.C. suburbs, Dr. Milliken has always
been drawn to the mountain west for its dramatic scenery, abundance of
nature, wild west history and culture and accessibility to snow sports
and winter. Outside of work, Dr. Milliken enjoys spending time with his
wife and their family.
