Provider Bio
Sonya Schwartzer, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, joined Livingston HealthCare in March of 2017. After obtaining a degree in Family Science from Montana State University, Sonya attended Walla Walla University in Billings, getting her Masters of Social Work in 2005.
Despite first entering college as a Computer Science major, Sonya was immediately interested in human development, and knew she wanted to get into social work.
"I was so interested in how humans work, how our brains work, and how development early on in life can affect us later in life, so it opened the door for me," Sonya says.
Before joining Livingston HealthCare, Sonya worked at the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch (YBGR) from 2003 to 2017, first as a Behavior Specialist and then as a therapist. Her time at YBGR allowed her to realize what she truly enjoyed about her profession, and helped her develop an approach with patients that she is comfortable with.
"It's really important that a patient feels like they can sit with me and be very open and honest. My approach is about meeting the patient where they're at, finding out what's going on, what they want to be different, and working together," Sonya says. "I'm there to be that objective, compassionate, understanding person that they can work through things with."
In her free time, Sonya enjoys spending time with her daughter, her dogs and her horses.
